[X] SUG: Show Directory with Profile setting seems to list categories in random order (each time i give the command it lists in a different order) -- would be great to list Categories and their Directories in the order specified in Profile, or at least Categories in order specified, AFTER which list any uncategorized directories; if it's easier to list Categories alphabetically user can number them like i have done
CE CE 2024-03-13 - 14:43 UTC
SUG: In the command for stripping edits back to last Update -- instead of Refresh File can we use Revert File -- and definitely add alarming noise words "(undoing all edits in this file since last Update) OK: (really?) OK:" -- in Augment the command is Delete Modifications which but was not at all intuitive to users
CE CE 2024-03-13 - 14:26 UTC
Q: is there an easy way to know if I have unsaved changes in my file? If so it might be nice at some point to display a status indicator in the file window ribbon, even just "..." which appears when I edit the file and disappears when I Update or Revert file to last update -- not a priority at this time

Viewspec Status Window - Refinement - would be so nice for demo but not critical
CE CE 2024-02-19 - 19:44 UTC
Issues to resolve - (1) tension between showing what all is in effect vs. what user has changed vs. just plain TMI; (2) tension between showing in order set by user while removing its toggle from the list (current implementation), vs. constant position that toggles; (3) l and I are indistinguishable in the current font
CE CE 2024-02-19 - 19:44 UTC
We definitely have a TMI problem listing out full viewspecs status. I think it was worth trying the current implementation but i think it exacerbates the user's challenge to assess at-a-glance what's in effect when each viewspec entered causes multiple changes in the Status display
CE CE 2024-02-19 - 19:44 UTC
Unbold - As a minimum let's unbold the entire viewspec status "[Viewing: ALL | ALL xxxx]" - consider also graying all viewspecs so initiallying only brackets and "Viewing:" and vertical bar "|" are black
CE CE 2024-02-19 - 19:44 UTC
Emphasize - Consider throughout session, only the NON defaults are emphasized (i.e. turned black and/or bolded and/or underlined) so to start with only viewspec m is emphasized, the rest including ALL ALL are grayed
CE CE 2024-02-19 - 19:44 UTC
What to show for "xxxx" -
CE CE 2024-04-18 - 15:10 UTC
Let's assign constant position that toggles viewspec pairs/triplets (excluding level/line viewspecs) - always in this order:
CE CE 2024-02-19 - 19:44 UTC
[Viewing: ALL | ALL ymGJDLhjpAU]
CE CE 2024-02-19 - 19:44 UTC
Minimalist Approach - Consider showing for "xxxx" only those that have been set - initally ym:
CE CE 2024-04-18 - 15:16 UTC
[Viewing: ALL | ALL ym]
CE CE 2024-04-18 - 15:16 UTC
Throughout session add only what the user has changed, while maintaining the set position shown above for each pair/triplet - so for example when user sets TBtH , and later T no longer in effect while user has also set xbAgG and later sets viewspec hzi :
CE CE 2024-04-18 - 15:31 UTC
[Viewing: ALL | 1 ymHBT] . . . [Viewing: 2 | 1 ymGgAU] . . . [Viewing: 2 | 1 zmGhiAU]
CE CE 2024-04-18 - 15:38 UTC
In other words user is only shown beginner level "ym" plus only what they have messed with - reinforcing what they've learned to make use of at their current user level
CE CE 2024-04-18 - 14:40 UTC
"Surprise" Approach - a variation on Minimalist, show only those changes that could throw the user off when in effect like zgiBT - don't bother showing obvious self-evident viewspecs like mGJDL
CE CE 2024-04-18 - 15:20 UTC
So using the above example:
CE CE 2024-04-18 - 15:57 UTC
[Viewing: ALL | ALL yBT] . . . [Viewing: 2 | 1 ygAU] . . . [Viewing: 2 | 1 zhiAU]
CE CE 2024-02-19 - 19:44 UTC
Add "Recents:" ??? - this could be helpful but makes the V: Status super long - Consider tacking on additional "Recents:" to display the last n viewspecs entered by the user -- these are always grayed (it's only the non-defaults that might be emphasized)
CE CE 2024-02-19 - 19:44 UTC
[Viewing: 3 | 1 zmH - Recents: xbbzH]
CE CE 2024-04-18 - 14:35 UTC
In a narrow window, and/or for Max-level users consider shortening "Viewspecs:" to "V:" - default is to show whole word

Viewspecs issues
CE CE 2024-02-15 - 15:53 UTC
• Purple Numbers flakey - (1) only show at set window width; (2) overlapping with content ; related to <0173> below
CE CE 2024-02-15 - 15:57 UTC
[X] • Viewspec n - making the numbers appear in right margin - should hide the numbers
CE CE 2024-02-15 - 15:55 UTC
[X] • Statement signatures - not shown consistently; also should be same color as Purple Numbers
CE CE 2024-02-15 - 16:06 UTC
[X] File window margin whitespace - the left margin is nice, would be lovely to also have same margin at right so statement attributes (Purple Numbers, Statement signatures) are not jammed up against the scrollbar
CE CE 2024-02-01 - 01:07 UTC
[X] Delete Word leaves extra spaces behind

[X] FONT changes - [clever Bob made this a Profile setting! Thank you!]
CE CE 2024-02-14 - 16:49 UTC
Reasons to fuss with Font -- for ease and efficiency of editing and accessibility, plus recording demos: (1) larger font-size easier to differentiate and/or select specific characters; (2) fonts offering better character spacing and character differentiation add greatly to efficiency and accessibility, especially differentiating the skinny characters Ilij|1 and 0(uppercase i, lowercase 'el', lowercase i and j, vertical bar, numbers one and zero )
CE CE 2024-02-19 - 17:30 UTC
Current default font as appears in my MiniAug windows is essentially Helvetica 9.5pt
CE CE 2024-02-19 - 17:39 UTC
Start by increasing font size -- as minimum increase to 11 or 11.5pt equivalent
CE CE 2024-02-19 - 17:40 UTC
(Note in the Hyperscope browser I could adjust font size on-the-fly using CMD-+/-/0 not available in MiniAug, we may want to add this at some point down the road)
CE CE 2024-02-14 - 16:58 UTC
Looking at alternate fonts - Verdana and Atkinson Hyperlegible rise to the top
CE CE 2024-02-14 - 17:00 UTC
Verdana is universally 'websafe', scores high enough on accessibility lists, has excellent character spacing and well-differentiated capital i -- use minimum font-size 10.5 or 11
CE CE 2024-02-14 - 17:02 UTC
Atkinson Hyperlegible has the best character differentiation of skinny characters, developed in collaboration with Braille Institute and now offered by Google fonts, but character spacing is a bit dense -- use minimum font-size 11.5 or 12

Commands - Clean up command syntax where required -- e.g. Copy Phrase vs Copy Plex
CE CE 2024-02-03 - 20:13 UTC
Primacy goes to which was more commonly in use at the time it was implemented -- for now let's keep the same primacy as Augment so user doc keeps working; Secondary objects require
CE CE 2024-02-03 - 20:17 UTC
As a general rule, those requiring also require or permit a set number of letters to recognize command word -- for VERBS it's two letters and for NOUNS be one letter
CE CE 2024-02-03 - 20:21 UTC
Having a rule of thumb supports user speed and efficiency -- they only need to memorize which command word needs a and verb vs. noun dictates if it needs one or two letters. On the other hand having to stop and peck through a command to learn how many letters it takes to recognition is an unnecessary speed bump -- I think the only exception might be Reset which requires RES

CE CE 2023-12-31 - 16:52 UTC

Conversely, the Set viewspecs y or z command is causing a backward jump along with the viewspec change.

Level adjust on Insert STRUCTURE in Augment worked thusly after selecting statement it is to follow
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 18:25 UTC
SOURCE: Augment Quick Reference Card p.4 "LEVADJ" states:
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 18:33 UTC
"Type level-adjust characters (u for up, d for down), ending with or , or type or for same level"
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 18:40 UTC
Note noise words preceding L: prompt "(level adjust) L:" -- per updated Augment Commands Syntax file section on Editing STRUCTUREs
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 17:01 UTC
For "u" user can include one or more u's for each level up to shift the new statement
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 18:36 UTC
Command window replaces "L:" with "d! M/T:" or "u! M/T:" or "uu! M/T: or "! M/T:" for Same
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 17:16 UTC
NOTE: I always thought it would be WAY better for the user to see more reassuring feedback in the command window like "(level adjust) Down (a level) M/T:" or "Up ({n} levels) M/T:" or "Same (level) M/T:"

Insert Character is selecting a word instead of a character
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 16:47 UTC
Replace Text with user typein fails -- simple Replace Text MARK (through) MARK M/T: typein new text OK yikes it now promps M:
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 16:31 UTC
Inserting end of short statement fails -- for example Insert Word or Character (to follow) M: MARK the last word or char of a short statement M/T: typein new text OK -- command window returns to "BASE C:" but nothing was inserted.

Word selection nuances -
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 15:34 UTC
(1) selecting first word in statement -- first character is excluded from the word selection
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 15:35 UTC
(2) word selection is highigting space with word -- this was not a thing in augment obviously, some thoughts: does seem useful for some Word selections like Delete Word, maybe also first selection in Move or Copy Word, definitely NOT helpful in Replace Word or Insert Word, nor any selections in response to "(to follow word at) M:" this second selection should highlight just the word without highlighting preceeding space which unnecessarily draws attention to what comes BEFORE the word when attention is more appropriately on the END of the word the new input will follow; plus selecting the first word in a statement is not highlighting a space which is inconsistent with other word selections
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 18:05 UTC
For simplicity sake for now why not simply highlight the word without the space, user is told to trust the spacing will be properly adjusted
CE CE 2023-12-31 - 14:38 UTC
In any case Replace Word must always simply replace the word while retaining the exact context around the old word
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 18:13 UTC
(3) Some Word operations are inserting too many spaces added around the string inserted
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 19:01 UTC
These add extra: Copy Word, Replace Word,
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 18:57 UTC
These work: Delete Word
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 16:32 UTC
(3) Force Word (at) ! First -- forces the word all lowercase, but works fine on objects other than Word
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 15:19 UTC
Links with spaces are not recognized as links?-- link parser should ignore whitespace within the brackets when evaluating a link
CE CE 2023-12-30 - 16:35 UTC

Prompting that final OK: after Typein is unnecessary - during typein user has every opportunity to backspace and retype, so when they hit OK to complete their typein that's all you need to go ahead and execute, no need to again prompt final OK: like you do after a M: mark selection. I've updated augment commands Syntax file accordingly.
BMC BMC 2023-12-16 - 19:16 UTC
Force STRING/STRUCTURE command offers C/OK: for First, Lower, Upper, or OK where OK = Upper [default]
BMC BMC 2023-12-19 - 15:03 UTC
Backspace acts on Selections as well as Typein and Command words - for example:
BMC BMC 2023-12-19 - 15:09 UTC
SAMPLE COMMAND: Replace Phrase (at) M: ! {select highlights first Visible} (through) M: ! {2nd selection highlights through last Visible selected } (by) T: Once upon a time...
BMC BMC 2023-12-19 - 15:10 UTC
Start Backspacing which initially backspaces my Typein, once it clears the "O" in "Once" it re-prompts T: and now my next Backspace should erase the T: and de-select my 2nd selection so only my first selection is highlighted, and so on
BMC BMC 2023-12-16 - 18:34 UTC
Word selection - couple points:
BMC BMC 2023-12-16 - 18:42 UTC
(1) Word is alphanumeric, not just alpha, so if i click anywhere in 2023 should fully highlight the 2023, likewise these are legit words for selection purposes: 1A4crazy or alpha01.
BMC BMC 2023-12-16 - 18:42 UTC
(2) Word Selection - Whichever character I click on is a *wildcard* thus automatically part of the word, no matter what it is, just include it in the Word selection - so for example Delete Word click on the hypen in alpha-numeric it takes the whole string alpha-numeric because the character i clicked on was a wildcard. NUANCE re: the Force Word First command, just like with Force Text or Phrase or Statement, it then takes that whole string and parses the actual words ending up with Alpha-Numeric
BMC BMC 2023-12-19 - 14:15 UTC
(3) Adjust spacing around word - pertains to Phrase/Word/Visible commands
BMC BMC 2023-12-19 - 14:26 UTC
for INSERT completing Move/Copy/Insert, add one space before or after selection as appropriate to the context
BMC BMC 2023-12-19 - 14:27 UTC
for DELETE executing Move/Delete, remove one space before or after selection as appropriate to the context
BMC BMC 2023-12-19 - 14:30 UTC
for OTHER i.e. Replace/Transpose, leave the spacing surrounding the selection as it was
BMC BMC 2023-12-19 - 15:41 UTC
SAMPLE STMT: Now is the before-after time. And so forth and so on where the living is easy. Summertime, with sunshine and long evenings for after-dinner walks.
BMC BMC 2023-12-19 - 15:44 UTC
So Delete Word click on "walks" OK the statement now ends "for after-dinner." with no space before the period. Now Replace word click on the "-" in "after-dinner" T: typein "later" OK you now have "for later." Now Delete word click on the space in "Now is" OK it selects that string and deletes that string plus the next space so statement now begins with "the" Now Insert Word (to follow) click on the comma in "Summertime," and typein "awash" you get "Summertime, awash with"
BMC BMC 2023-12-11 - 17:35 UTC
Text and Phrase selection fails on short statements - for example:
BMC BMC 2023-12-16 - 17:50 UTC
SAMPLE STMT: # Sample small statement for testing Text. #
BMC BMC 2023-12-19 - 14:50 UTC
Try Copy Text and click first anywhere in "small" and then anywhere in "testing" then ABORT don't OK it . Same for Transpose Text or Replace Phrase on same. WARNING if you Delete Text click click OK you get fatal error - only way out is to Quit java
BMC BMC 2023-12-16 - 19:03 UTC
Selecting whitespace - if user clicks in whitespace, Augment helps them out by selecting the nearest character
BMC BMC 2023-12-16 - 17:55 UTC
WISHLIST - eventually some level of interoperability with outside MiniAug, to copy back and forth, follow links:
BMC BMC 2023-12-16 - 18:06 UTC
Copying text from OUTSIDE MiniAug - for example at any T: prompt a CMD-V pastes clipboard contents to be taken as user Typein - for starters keeping simple for example but not insert Branch
BMC BMC 2023-12-16 - 18:11 UTC
Insert STRING (to follow...) ! T: CMD-v fills typein field with the clipboard contents, end with OK
BMC BMC 2023-12-16 - 18:17 UTC
Insert Statement (to follow...) ! L: ! T: CMD-v fills in blapblapblap from the clipboard, end with OK
BMC BMC 2023-12-16 - 18:20 UTC
No need to implement for Branch, Group, Plex for now!
BMC BMC 2023-12-16 - 18:21 UTC
Jump Link clicking on a link whose URL points outside MiniAug would open a browser window and execute there
BMC BMC 2023-12-16 - 19:22 UTC
Consider about how we might copy from MiniAug to paste outside of Miniaug
